A plan set in motion more than a decade ago has come to fruition: the creation of a second nonprofit La Posada senior living community modeled after our beloved Green Valley community, which has been enriching the lives of older adults in the Tucson area since 1987.
Earlier this year, we began welcoming new residents to La Posada at Pusch Ridge, nestled in the heart of Oro Valley. A vibrant hub of connection, care and community impact, La Posada at Pusch Ridge shares the same mission as La Posada at Green Valley: to maximize the well-being of seniors.
The first phase of development has focused on our independent living apartment homes, and more than 100 of the 166 available apartments are now occupied.
We are also making exciting progress on our second phase: the design and construction of assisted living and memory care apartments. In later phases, we anticipate adding free-standing homes and townhomes for independent residents.
A Celebration To Commemorate Our Grand Opening
In late October, we hosted a special gathering of residents, board members, the La Posada team and distinguished guests who’ve helped make La Posada at Pusch Ridge a reality.
After enjoying a celebratory brunch, we held a dedication ceremony to honor the vision, dedication and unwavering commitment it has taken to create such an extraordinary community.
To help spread the word that our new community is welcoming residents, and to showcase our beautifully crafted residences, we hosted an open house event on Monday, November 3, 2025 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
If you missed the open house, we invite you to call us and schedule a tour.
More About the La Posada Mission
To carry out our mission of maximizing the well-being of older adults, we focus on helping people age with vitality, purpose and friendships. In doing so, our reach extends far beyond our senior living communities—because aging well isn’t just a personal journey. It’s a communal effort.
To this end, we’ve designed our services based on a dual commitment: enhancing the lives of residents in our communities and maximizing their individual well-being while also contributing meaningfully to the broader community.
In Green Valley, La Posada has served as a cornerstone of wellness, education and engagement by offering resources, partnerships and programs to the larger community. We are working quickly to serve Oro Valley in the same way.
We partner with local hospitals, the University of Arizona, other nonprofit organizations and civic groups to form a network of support that benefits everyone. From hosting public seminars to offering volunteer opportunities, our campuses are places where generations intersect and relationships thrive.
La Posada at Pusch Ridge contributes to Oro Valley’s economic engine. In addition to providing jobs to local healthcare professionals, hospitality staff, security, maintenance, landscape and administrative personnel, our community supports local vendors and businesses through procurement and event partnerships.
A Life Plan Is Integral to La Posada’s Mission
A Life Plan Community can accommodate its residents’ evolving care needs within the community.
At La Posada at Green Valley, we have three assisted living programs available to residents of either La Posada community. When the second phase of development at our Pusch Ridge community has been completed, both assisted living and memory care will be available in our newest community.
How Being a Nonprofit Factors Into the Equation
Most of the senior living communities in southern Arizona are for-profit businesses. This means they have investors or shareholders that must be satisfied, which typically means profitability is a motivating consideration in their day-to-day operations.
As a nonprofit organization, La Posada is free to pursue our mission without the constraints for-profit communities must address. The difference this makes for residents can be crucial:
A resident who has depleted their resources through no fault of their own does not have to leave their La Posada community.
Through what we call a Life Lease, La Posada will continue to care for residents who’ve depleted their resources We’re able to do this through the Good Neighbor fund available from the La Posada Foundation. As a freestanding nonprofit organization, the Foundation operates separately from, but provides support to, both La Posada communities.
This supplemental funding is provided in a way that protects residents’ privacy and dignity.
La Posada Helps Seniors Age Successfully
Aging well involves maintaining physical health, mental acuity, emotional resilience and social connections as we get older. La Posada at Pusch Ridge is designed to support these pillars through a comprehensive, person-centered approach comprising various programs, services and amenities.
- Tailored fitness programs. In our well-equipped fitness facility, we offer yoga, water aerobics and Sit and Be Fit classes, as well as individualized programs that help residents maintain strength, flexibility and balance. These activities can reduce the risk of falling while promoting continued independence.
- Nutrition. Our dining services are an essential component of our wellness strategy. We have an outstanding chef who, along with a talented team, offers a delicious variety of balanced meals that support healthy nutrition for older adults. The team is happy to accommodate individual preferences and is available to cater residents’ private parties.
- Cognitive engagement. To help residents preserve their mental acuity, we offer a diverse calendar of activities. Favorites include book clubs, bridge and mahjong. We also provide educational seminars and bus trips to area cultural events. Residents with an artistic flair can take advantage of our art studio, which features a kiln for clay sculpture.
- Healthcare. We have an onsite RN navigator and support staff to assist with early detection and chronic disease management. They offer resources such as health screenings, vaccination clinics and access to primary and specialty care, as well as physical therapy. The RN navigator can also arrange in-home care—including hospice if needed.
The Road to Oro Valley
In the decades since La Posada at Green Valley opened, the community has continuously grown on its 130 acres. In 2014, the board of trustees agreed it was time to expand the La Posada mission to the Oro Valley area.
We’d been searching for the right location for a year when Bill Viner, a Tucson-area home builder and philanthropist, offered to sell us 80 acres in the center of Oro Valley. As soon as we saw the breathtaking view of the Catalina Mountains, we knew this was to be our second site.
Enlisting the help of architects and engineers, we made it through the vigorous process of gaining approval from the Town of Oro Valley. After that, we ran into a few delays—such as having to pause the project in 2018, when we had 95% presales, because there was a lack of construction subcontractors.
When we resumed a year later, we engaged Gensler architects to reimagine the project’s first phase. Eventually, we completed financing in October 2022. Around that time, Sundt Construction let us know that one of their other projects had been canceled and they were available to price and build our project.
Not only did they complete the first phase of our development plan on time and on budget, but they also saved enough of our contingency budget to add a large parking garage for residents to use. If you’ve lived in this climate, you know what a bonus that is!
One Resident’s Experience So Far at La Posada at Pusch Ridge
After assessing her needs, evaluating the services and amenities each community offered, and considering the cost structure, a resident who moved here after visiting numerous communities in Tucson and Phoenix says she selected La Posada at Pusch Ridge in large part because we’re a Life Plan Community.
“I decided to move while I am physically and mentally capable,” she says. “I realized La Posada at Pusch Ridge was the right move for me. It’s conveniently located near friends, my primary physician, financial institutions, stores and other amenities. Plus, I enjoy the climate here. Where I lived before, I had to deal with ice and snow for many years.
“When I entered the lobby of La Posada on moving day, I felt so alive. Everything was bright, new and beautiful. Every employee was so nice, respectful and helpful.
“I’m enjoying every minute. I’ve made new friends. I feel safe and happy. I made the right choice.”
We invite you to start your own experience at La Posada with a tour of our new community. Call 520-314-6790 or contact us online to schedule a visit.
